...but you really wanna know About Me:

I’m a mid-30s, married Canadian mother of two. I take belly dancing classes and listen to CBC a whole lot. I left a career in the web content field for grad school in ethnomusicology.

It used to say here that I was “freshly returned from living abroad,” but now it’s been nearly five years. And it’s still strange. I still seem to be holding out.

Here’s kind of an old picture of me at Heritage fest 2003 with some friends. There are a few more scattered throughout the site (plus the occasional featured image). Just browse the image category.

What is this place?

Here you have it: if I have a thought or want to call attention to something, it may find its way to being posted here at Beetroot. Topics will range from arts (music, dance, theatre, film, comic strips, games etc.) and the written word (literature, books) to the web, net culture and media theory, humour, food, the politics of the body, cross-cultural tangents, and whatever else takes my fancy. Straightforward musings on God and war will probably be avoided.

I’ve got good news and bad news

Since this is the web, Beetroot isn’t a comprehensive personal journal or a regular info update for friends. If you know me, and are hoping that visiting this site will keep you up to date on what’s going on with me, you’ll probably be frustrated in your enterprise. Drop me a line in email, IM or IRC instead. The rest of you take off your coats and stay awhile.

Ready, set, evolve.
