I’m breaking in my new Joy of Cooking (thanks Mom) by mangling a Boeuf Bourguignonne tonight, and what do I see on the same page but a recipe for Sauerbraten that includes the following instruction:
We like the gravy “straight.” Some cooks add: (Raisins, catsup and ground gingersnaps)
I can feel some chef, somewhere, somewhen, jonesing for the foods mama used to make in the old country. I am so there.
