“Ladies and gentlemen, Mr Elton John!”

This breathless announcement by George Michael in the live version of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” makes the crowd go wild. Que Sera Sera wistfully quips:

I cannot remember the last time I was ever that excited about anything, and that sort of bums me out.

But in an excavated memory, when an Elton John impersonator doesn’t know “Levon,” her requested song…

In a beautiful moment of drunken solidarity, everyone else in the Holiday Inn Select bar started SINGING LEVON, totally drowning out Faux Elton John and his backing tape. Man, I love that memory! Now I’m not bummed out anymore.

The moral of this story is, that it takes quite a few very excited people to make a crowd go wild. There’s no sense being all excited by yourself. It certainly helps if you’re not alone, and a few people know the lyrics.

(Historical note: The last concert I went to in high school was George Michael.)

Seeing as that was 1989, KIDDO, I think we can all rest, and listen to some Too Funky and Freedom '90.
