Dan Savage

Savage Love appears Wednesdays at The Onion’s A.V. Club, where the accompanying cartoons are best. But sometimes The Onion goes on vacation (such as in the summer) and your next best bet is The Stranger on Thursdays (out of Seattle, his home town). The Stranger also features an archive, and offers the added opportunity of reading articles by Savage on other topics, usually local ones.

PlanetOut used to offer Savage Love 2.0, a gay-focused sex advice column by Savage, in their Health and Fitness / Sexuality section.

Last but not least, buy his books:

Alison Bechdel

Dykes to Watch Out For is an incomparable comic strip I’ve been reading since 1989. Appearing approximately biweekly at PlanetOut, though sometimes they back up a bit. Another quite funny one at PlanetOut is The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green. Alison Bechdel also has her own site.

Buy Alison Bechdel’s books:
Dykes to Watch Out For, then More, New Improved!, The Sequel, Spawn of, Unnatural, Hot, Throbbing, Split-Level , Post-Dykes to Watch Out For, and Dykes and Sundry Other Carbon-Based Life-Forms to Watch Out For.

And don’t miss The Indelible Alison Bechdel: Confessions, Comix, and Miscellaneous Dykes to Watch Out For

Rex Wockner

When you’re out of the fruit loop like me, this tireless journalist provides all the gay news that’s fit to print: within the succinct biweekly gossip sheet of Quote Unquote. Anything I haven’t been keeping tabs on, I just go and Google and read up on it. Most memorable has been a Courtney Love item:

Some women can be completely gay. I’m not one of them. When I do it, though, I like really trashy porno girls. Like porno 44DD, and they have to be really aggressive. Otherwise, why bother?

-Courtney Love in Jane magazine, August 1999

Drew

toothpaste for dinner isn’t famous or lucrative, but it’s a very regularly updated, strange bunch of occasionally very hilarious gems. I think it’s an example of what’s going right with the net. The first I heard of it was on a friend’s t-shirt. Drew’s “sister” Natalie also draws and writes.

natalie-dee

Natalie isn’t too far off from what Drew is up to. She has been posting drawings daily lately; they’re cute and a bit off the wall. Her journal has some great insights and observations. Also occasionally very hilarious.

Gargoyles Landing BBS

Gargoyles Landing is the home of many mid to early 90s BBS games. It’s a great BBS, and the only place I play. The only game I play is Legend of the Red Dragon. I’ve been a regular in the Standard game since Spring 2001.

Disgruntled Housewife

One of the first sites I ever discovered on the net, back in July 1997. (I think I got there from Cool Yahoo! Categories.) She is a major, major influence. Nikol has packed in one of her more recent sites, Smile and Act Nice, but Out of the Frying Pan may still be cookin’. “Welcome to my Neurosis” is her irregularly updated journal at Disgruntled Housewife.
