Notes from July 2, 2003:
Context forgotten, but perhaps a segue from a meme trail leading from spam about family coats of arms.
Mine is “azure, three escallops between two bends or”, which is, in English: a blue shield with three gold escallops (scallop shells) between two gold bends (“/”-facing diagonal stripes).
The scallop, a shellfish with a beautiful, fluted shell, is known as la coquille de St Jacques in French. Heraldic escallops mark the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, which ends in Spain. Jacob in Hebrew or James in English is the same as Jacques in French or Iago in Spanish. Shakespeare freaks take note (Branagh plays him in the movie, while Gilbert Gottfried voices the parrot).
I’ve eaten maybe three scallops in my entire life.
