Interview 21 August 2003, 16:05

Our man from Staticred has agreed to pose five questions, upon my foolhardy request. You can play too! (See below.)

1. Why do you dance? How do you feel when you’re dancing?

What a setup! I love this one!

At the kindling, a combination of the music and the environment/audience moves me. The reason for it? A natural homage to good music, that seems to attack the ear region and then reaches down to the hips and the toes.

When it’s good, it feels effortless and I’m charged with energy and happy. When it’s bad, I’m not self-forgotten enough, and have to employ acting to cover pain and self-consciousness.

2. Now that you’ve had some time to get settled here, how do you like Edmonton?

You can’t ask that in a Fringe week. It is glorious. They stole my bike light; low population density rather than indifference? My sunglasses are scratched from constant wear and carrying. This morning was cold.

3. Guilders or Euros? Why?

Tientjes (10 guilder bills) and Rijksdaalders (ƒ2,50- coins) for sensual enjoyment; Euros for crude practicality: ons geld (“our money” doesn’t begin to translate)

4. What do you think the lack of text-adventure games has taken away from this generation of computer users?

Detective.

If you mean text-based gaming in general, I think that some of us are missing out on the sparse aesthetic of command-line, text-only and limited character set (e.g. ASCII) environments. If you mean just interactive fiction, I can’t think of a unique contribution other than that.

5. Where do you want to be (mentally/professionally/personally) in the next 5 years?

Intellectually, somewhat more cultivated and fulfilled. Professionally, carrying off a successful juggling act. Personally, enjoying love and community, but that’s part of the juggling act.

HOW TO PLAY

If you want me to ask you five questions, sign up below. Only the first five people who respond will be interviewed. If you have a website, answer your questions there, otherwise add them to the discussion below. If you choose to interview five people as well, please note that you can’t turn around and interview me (i.e. “You can’t tag your butcher back”).

While supplies last. Void where prohibited.

For Jaime: 1. What kind of role does exercise play in your life? 2. You're very independent. How did you get this way? 3. Describe the philosophy behind how you keep your animals. 4. Characterize one or more of your cooking experiences. 5. How has one book (preferably fiction) changed your perspective in life?
