New house

Our new place, vintage 1980, is a nearly perfectly preserved swingin’ disco pad. It has fixtures I remember seeing in swank digs of the period, belonging to my parents’ hipster friends.
This presents a design difficulty: whether to tone it down or milk the vibe to ridiculous extremes. The temptation to do the latter is strong.
Textures

Cedar paneling: accent throughout, alongside offwhite walls

Brass: frightening array of lights (main bathroom, other white and clear corridor wall and ceiling lamps not shown)

2” Brown tile (foyer, kitchen and dining room floors, fireplace)

Vanilla blinds with two chocolate stripes: mmm (master bedroom)

Cream bamboo wallpaper (party wall in corridor)

Tiny abstract brown flower on offwhite textured wallpaper: I’m not so pleased with this (kitchen)

5” white tile with geosymmetric flowers in green, blue and yellow: the first to go (kitchen, downstairs bathroom)
Mottled dark brown vinyl countertops (kitchen, bathrooms)
Fixtures

Toilet roll: smoked brown plastic (ensuite)

Toothbrush holder: smoked brown plastic including cup (ensuite)

Ladder to loft: chestnut brown carpet (stainless steel railings not shown)

Bellows: brown leather and steel

Cupboards: maple veneer with round, dark brown wooden handles (bathrooms, kitchen)

Dixie® cup dispenser (downstairs bathroom)

It is a nifty, nifty place. ;) I think you two are going to make it look just spanky when you're done with it.— Darren · 1418 days ago · #
