Garden geeks

We are total beginners at gardening, but luckily we’re spoiled. I have great inlaws that came to overhaul our front and back yards when we moved into our new place, and good friends that gave us gardening gear for wedding presents. We also have a laughably easy yard, thanks to the architect.
Taking care of the raspberry canes is actually kind of fun, and we’ve tried not to get too overzealous pruning back the trees and bushes.
This is our only lawn

Where our tulips are planted
Each marker representes a tulip bulb we planted today. Armed with a pack of bulbs from Holland, we put 16 in the front and 14 in the back. It was a mixed pack, so we actually have no idea what sort or colour of tulips will come up, if any.
Were you aware that tulip bulbs are like onions, which have the bulbous part down and the pointy bit up where the green bit grows, just the opposite of beets? I wasn’t.
Anyway, we dug down and buried those buggers. Bone meal was also involved, which just seems so morbidly goth. We’ve probably done some of this wrong, but what the hey.

Victorious!

Doesn’t this wicked tool look like a larger version of the tool from the alien abduction episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation?

haha, yes it does. Also, don't be afraid to plant your bulbs in bunches.. they don't always need to be well-spaced, and you can poke in a few smaller varieties (narcissus, maybe?) of bulb in with the taller tulips. You've started out well with bulbs though, because you have to really try very hard not to have a beautiful show of plants... and if you leave them in, every year will see them proliferate further as they divide and grow. Dig them up and re-space them about every three years or so, so you don't end up with clumps of five all struggling to use the same inch or two of emergence space. :) I looks lovely.
